When we give it all to the Lord, surrender our sins at his feet, the yoke becomes easy and burden becomes light. Lord strengthen me, call on me and use me for your glory.

This is a tradegy! As much as I think Samson was silly I understand that he loved Deliah and he was worn down and tired. The human element is right there for all of us to see. It’s so easy to make bad judgements when we are tired. But remember this, every dawn God blesses us afresh and the darkness will not overcome!

As I was reading this account of Samson, my attention was captured to how easily we can fall prey to sin. Delilah utilized her intimate relationship with Samson for her own financial gain and pretty much served him up to his enemies on a silver platter. There is so much symbolism woven throughout each character’s story that point to the One true hero of Scripture. It took Delilah three times to wear Samson down to learn the true source of his strength. She used her cunning charm to deceive, much like the serpent in the garden with Eve. In our humanness, we can become so easily distracted, consumed, blinded that we miss things that should be so obvious to us, these tactics of the enemy, using those closest to us to sometimes take us out. While it took him losing his strength, getting his eyes gouged out, and being imprisoned, that chain of events was all part of God’s divine plan to deliver His people from the hands of the enemy. Even in the midst of my sin, failures, and mistakes, I can turn to Him, the Source of strength and trust that He will work it all together for good. All I need to do is cry out to Jesus, surrender, and allow Him and only Him to be my strength. So often we try to do it all on our own, but He tells us His yoke is easy, and His burden is light. God help me to always be dependent on you, and when the darkness seems to overtake me, help me to remember to pray like Samson, “strengthen me God”.
