Verses 10 and 13-16 talk about looking forward to the foundations of a new city built by God. “Having seen them and greeted them from afar”; so having already participated and taking steps to act on Gods will for the future. They had their minds set on eternal things. Not temporary like “having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth”. It says that it is clear those people are looking for a homeland. God is not ashamed to be called our God because we have our minds fixed on our homeland. Because we desire a better world, He has made one for us.

I have heard stories about some of these people but not all. I would expect the faith of these people to be strong and without waver, but knowing what I do, I know this is not so. Some of these people made mistakes and did the opposite than what they were told by a God out of fear. This means so much more though because we have such an amazing God that even when we disobey or make a mistake he is right beside us ready to forgive us for he knows our human ways.

They feared no one and nothing more than they loved and had faith in God. Their faith was tested so greatly, and yet they did not take the “easier” way.

You would think in all these tough moments that these people would be hopeless and miserable , but because they kept their faith in God and followed his plans for them , they found hope and reward and showed how strong their faith in God was.

They kept their faith in the toughest of times. They could’ve taken the easy way out but they chose to trust God knowing that He keeps His promises!
