In the beginning God told Rebekkah that the eldest would serve the youngest. Esau also sold his birthright to Jacob for food. And the Jacob deceived both his father and brother by lying to get the blessing. Was it Gods plan? He knows everything that is going to happen he knows all of our steps. Did Rebekkah and Jacob just not trust God and put it into their own plans?

It was always God’s plan for Jacob to receive the blessing (Genesis 25:23) but Isaac tried to take it into his own hands and give it to Esau (the “stronger” son) instead. Then instead of trusting God, Rebekah and Jacob took it into their own hands.

Why did God allow the deceit? Why did Rebekah not want her firstborn son to have the same life that her second son will have? How did Isaac not recognize he was being deceived? Was all of that part of God’s plan? Was it intentional? I always have so many questions. But despite all of those questions, I know that Isaac faithfully and fully blessed Jacob with the blessing he meant to give Esau, and it was SO fully faithful that he could not give the same blessing again to the second son. The weight of that almost hurts

Wouldn’t goat hair feel different that human hair? Also shocked by the fact he low key knew it was Jacob because of his voice but again got confused by the goat hair… I guess I’m just surprised that common sense didn’t take over but at the same time I feel like this is the way it was supposed to happen

The disappointment that Esau felt compares to the disappointment that we feel when things don’t go the way we think they should go. When it seems like evil is overcoming good and we just have to trust that God’s working things out for our good. Somehow. I pray that my trust in God grows so that I can’t find peace in his plans for me, even in times of disappointment and “deceit.”

Issac didn’t see that happening!

Esau took it all very well considering! But what I don’t understand is why Jacob was allowed to gain the blessing in a such a way. It feels like it is rewarding wrongdoing.

Just a thought buzzing in my head this morning!

We live in such a different hierarchical society that blessing is not given like this anymore. Also, we are living in a way where women are the recipients of the blessings in life . Women can earn and become breadwinners whereas that was not such a thing in the past. I think what we see as “blessing” is not the same kind of blessing that Issac received.

The story of these two brothers shows us the power that forgiveness and love holds, considering the two of them went on to fulfill the promise God made to Abraham that great nations will be made through his offspring.
