We wear rolled-up sleeves and dirty knees like a badge of honor. After all, we\u2019re problem solvers with grit in our bones.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Except, of course, we aren\u2019t. Not where it counts the most.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our bend toward self-sufficiency is merely the fever that points to the infection of sin in our hearts. When we recognize that sin separates us from life and light, and that we are destined for forever darkness, our hearts wail, \u201cWho will intervene for us?!\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesus will. <em>Jesus has.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Priest<\/em> may feel like a clunky concept to modern, evangelical minds, but our souls understand the concept of an intermediary. We understand an intervener. We understand an advocate. God\u2019s people always have.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the Israelites were learning to live free and chosen, the Lord called Aaron and his descendants to step in as holy mediators. God\u2019s people stood together breathless outside the Tent of Meeting as the priests stood between them and the wrath they deserved. \u201cApproach the altar and sacrifice your sin offering and your burnt offering; make atonement for yourself and for the people. Sacrifice the people\u2019s offering and make atonement for them, as the LORD commanded\u201d (Leviticus 9:7).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem was that people kept sinning and the debt kept climbing. Aaron and his priesthood could slaughter every bull, soaking the promised land with blood, and still they\u2019d be separated from God by the compounding sin. No can-do spirit would ever be enough to save. Heaven help us! What are we to do?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The levitical priests may have been set apart, but they were still sinners, making their sacrifices insufficient to fix what we\u2019ve broken. Because Christ alone is sinless, He alone was able to offer the full and final sacrifice required for your sin and for mine. And He\u2019s done it. He became the perfect sacrifice on the cross and now sits enthroned, as your intermediary. Forever.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s okay to stand breathless outside the Tent of Meeting in your mind from time to time and feel the weight of what your sinfulness has done to your relationship with the Father. But don\u2019t linger there for long.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who one has been tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin.&nbsp;<\/em><br><em>\u2014Hebrews 4:15<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s the miraculous what. Here\u2019s the spectacular \u201cso what now?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>Let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need.<\/em><br><em>\u2014Hebrews 4:16<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your High Priest has made the ultimate sacrifice. Stop holding your breath. Stop leaning on self-sufficiency.
