{"id":71872,"date":"2024-12-13T00:01:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-13T05:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shereadstruth.com\/?p=71872"},"modified":"2024-12-05T15:25:29","modified_gmt":"2024-12-05T20:25:29","slug":"peace-by-defeating-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shereadstruth.com\/peace-by-defeating-death\/","title":{"rendered":"Peace by Defeating Death"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Scripture Reading: Genesis 3:15, Mark 3:22-27, Hebrews 2:5-18, 1 Corinthians 15:24-26, 1 John 3:7-8, Revelation 12:10-12<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMom, why did Jesus come here?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was way past our kids\u2019 bedtime, and I, as a mother, had lost all patience.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We were in the middle of reading <em>one more<\/em> bedtime story from my son\u2019s children\u2019s Bible, and I wanted to be done. But this question hung in the air, and I knew it was important.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every year around Christmas, we get wrapped up in busyness, Christmas parties, and buying gifts for the people we love. We hang lights and stockings and bake cookies, cookies, and more cookies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But somewhere along the way, I apparently forgot to remind my son of what there actually was to celebrate&#8230;and why Jesus had come in the first place.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Little did I know that it wasn\u2019t just my then-five-year-old who needed the reminder. I so desperately needed it as well.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>\u201cThe Son of God was revealed for this purpose: to destroy the devil\u2019s works.\u201d<\/em><br><em>&nbsp;\u20141 John 3:8<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since birth, you and I have been marked by our sins, and these sins hurt God, our Creator. Jealousy, deceit, lying, gossip\u2014the list goes on. Death and punishment were what we all deserved.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But God, the One who is in charge of everything, still loves us very much\u2014enough so, that He has even given us dominion over the world He created (Hebrews 2:6\u20138). These promises are a reminder that yes, we will struggle against the enemy (Genesis 3:15), but our sin and mistakes are not the end of the story. The Bible tells us that Christ will reign until all His enemies are under His feet, the biggest of these being death itself (1Corinthians 15:25\u201326)!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means that even the BIG things, the things that seem to loom over us and threaten to destroy us, are under God\u2019s feet.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So to answer my son\u2019s question, \u201cWhy did Jesus come here?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s because, in the end, God wins! The darkness of death is not the end of the story, and death will be defeated (Revelation 12:10). It may not always seem like everything is subject to God, but the fact that Jesus came, died, and rose again is proof of His victory! We may not see everything set right yet. We may see pain, uncertainty, and unrest, but we also see Jesus (Hebrews 2:7\u20139).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Friend, we have a merciful and faithful high priest who is fighting on our behalf. That is why we can live in peace (v.17).
